چکیده

Background There is an epidemic of obesity and Type-2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) in the developed world. Subclinical diastolic dysfunction in diabetes is associated with the development of overt heart failure. Although diabetic cardiomyopathy is well documented in older adults with T2DM there are scarce data on younger adults and no published CMR data. We aimed to assess the prevalence and potential mechanisms of subclinical left ventricular (LV) dysfunction in young T2DM adults compared to healthy lean (LC) and obese controls (OC).

Subclinical left ventricular dysfunction and coronary atherosclerosis in asymptomatic patients with type 2 diabetes.

AIMS The aim of the present study was to evaluate whether subclinical left ventricular (LV) systolic dysfunction is independently related to subclinical coronary atherosclerosis in type 2 diabetic patients and if it could provide incremental information over baseline characteristics to identify high-risk patients. METHODS AND RESULTS A total of 234 asymptomatic, type 2 diabetic patients witho...

Subclinical left ventricular abnormalities in young diabetics.

Twenty young asymptomatic diabetic patients were evaluated for left ventricular dysfunction by determining the radionuclide ejection fraction response to supine bicycle ergometry. The double product at peak exercise (28,743 +/- 3,314 vs 29,007 +/- 3,625, p greater than .05) was not significantly different between the two groups. Seven of 20 diabetics had either no change or a drop in their ejec...

Assessment of Subclinical Myocardial Changes in Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease: A Case-Control Study Using Speckle Tracking Echocardiography

Background: Considering the association between cardiac abnormalities and non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD), the present study aimed to evaluate the relationship between biopsy-proven NAFLD and functional echocardiographic parameters, including left ventricular (LV) global longitudinal strain (GLS) in asymptomatic individuals. Methods: Thirty asymptomatic patients with liver biopsy-prov...

Clinical features of subclinical left ventricular systolic dysfunction in patients with diabetes mellitus

BACKGROUND Left ventricular (LV) longitudinal systolic dysfunction has been identified even in asymptomatic patients with diabetes mellitus (DM) and preserved LV ejection fraction (LVEF). However, its relevant clinical features have not been fully evaluated. METHODS We studied 144 asymptomatic DM patients without coronary artery disease. Their mean age was 57 ± 15 years, 79 (55%) were female,...
